Amongst the racing fleet for the Superyacht Cup Antigua preparations are well under way. The yachts began to arrive in Nelson's Dockyard during last week as the regatta organisers prepared the dockside for the parties to follow.
The latest yacht to confirm her participation is the largest sloop in the world at over 72m LOA, the Ron Holland designed Mirabella V. The yacht has clocked up many thousands of sea-miles since her debut at the Superyacht Cup Antigua in December 2006. Her guests will be fully joining in the spirit of the event but will be sailing non-competitively against the rest of the fleet.
Unfortunately the J class yacht Hanuman, had to pull out of the event at the last moment, but a competitive cross-section of superyachts will be lining up for the first race to begin today (Thursday 28 Jan) at 12:00pm (tbc).
Many famous names in yachting have flown in to race and enjoy the social events at this fun and relaxed Caribbean regatta. Social activities planned for the week include a Pirates of the Caribbean themed fancy dress party, a yacht hop and "crew cook off" barbeque and the traditional prize-giving dinner with "loud shirt" dress code.
