YPI, the managers of the 46-metre Feadship built superyacht MY Charisma, have announced in a press release that the body recovered off St. John on Sunday
afternoon has been confirmed as that of engineer, 32-year old Pawel Kwiatkowski.
Kwiatkowski, was reported missing in the British Virgin Islands on the morning of Saturday 30 January after a night out at the popular floating bar and restaurant Willy T's. Subsequently after nine days of extensive sea and shoreline searches by Virgin Islands Search and Rescue (VISAR) and the Police Marine Unit, a body was found washed ashore by police on 8 February at 15:20. The search teams had all been working closely with YPI Management and the captain and crew of MY Charisma.
At no point during the entire search and recovery process or the ensuing police investigations was MY Charisma impounded or any crewmembers placed under arrest. Following recommendations from YPI Management, MY Charisma remained voluntarily within BVI waters throughout the last nine days to assist the Police and Justice Department with all their inquiries.
YPI have remained in close contact with the family of Kwiatkowski and have stated that they will continue to do everything in their power to ensure his mother is properly supported and taken care of. YPI have also expressed gratitude towards the captain and crew of MY Charisma who have been able to provide maximum support and assistance to YPI Management as well as the rescue services and Police in the course of all investigations.
Franc Jansen, Head of YPI Management said, "As yacht managers we get to know and respect the crewmembers of our fleet of managed yachts. We were very much saddened first by news of the disappearance of Pawel and now by the confirmation of his death. Out of respect for him, his mother, family and friends...and the captain and crew of MY Charisma, we vow to leave no stone unturned to discover how and why this much-liked crewmember came to such an untimely death."
